# Peckham’s Tola Faces Uncertain Future Following Crippling Burglary

The vibrant South London nightlife scene has been dealt a severe blow after Tola, a popular Peckham club, fell victim to a targeted burglary that resulted in the loss of approximately £30,000 in assets. The incident, which occurred on August 27th, has left the venue’s management scrambling to recover from the total depletion of their operational infrastructure.

### A Targeted Attack on Local Culture Reflecting on the scale of the loss, the venue’s team shared a candid Instagram statement, noting simply: “Unfortunately, they got the lot.”

### The Financial Reality for Independent Venues “This isn’t going to be something we can absorb on our own,” Broadbent admitted, highlighting the precarious nature of small-scale hospitality businesses that operate on thin margins. According to recent industry data from the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), independent venues are increasingly vulnerable to such incidents, with many lacking the capital reserves to survive a single catastrophic event without community intervention.

### Rallying the Community: “The Dance Must Go On” The campaign page provides a sobering look at the aftermath, featuring CCTV footage of the perpetrators and documentation of the destruction left behind. Supporters looking to assist in the venue’s recovery can contribute directly via the GoFundMe campaign page.

Having only recently completed a comprehensive renovation project earlier this year, the club was operating at its peak before the break-in. The intruders systematically stripped the venue of its core functionality, making off with the entire sound system, essential DJ hardware, and the complete point-of-sale infrastructure, including card terminals. Beyond the technical equipment, the thieves also cleared out thousands of pounds worth of bar stock and alcohol, while simultaneously inflicting extensive structural damage to the premises.

The situation is compounded by a lack of financial safety nets. Co-founder Tom Broadbent confirmed in a follow-up statement that the venue’s insurance policy will not cover the losses. This exclusion has placed an immense burden on the business, which, like many independent cultural spaces in the UK, has already faced years of economic volatility and post-pandemic recovery challenges.

In a bid to keep the doors open, Tola has initiated a GoFundMe campaign titled “The Dance Must Go On.” The fundraiser aims to secure the necessary capital to replace the stolen gear and repair the damage caused during the raid.
