Pet owners are being urged to check their cabinets immediately following a voluntary recall of two popular canine health products. The New York-based company, Fi, initiated this safety measure after discovering that a raw ingredient provided by a third-party supplier might be tainted with Salmonella.

While we often associate Salmonella with human foodborne illnesses, it poses a significant threat to our four-legged companions as well. According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Salmonella outbreaks in pet products are a recurring concern, often leading to gastrointestinal distress, lethargy, and fever in animals. Furthermore, there is a secondary risk: humans who handle contaminated supplements can easily contract the bacteria if they do not practice rigorous hand hygiene after touching the product or the pet’s feeding area.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has confirmed that the manufacturer has halted all production lines to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the supply chain. To ensure the safety of their customers, Fi is proactively reaching out to those who purchased the following items:

* Fi Calming Supplement for Dogs: Lot Number 26118 | UPC 8 50064 80011 1 Both products were distributed in 180g containers and were available for purchase through the company’s direct-to-consumer website, as well as major online retailers like Amazon and Chewy.

If you have these dog supplements in your home, do not feed them to your pet. Even if the product appears normal, the risk of salmonella contamination is too high to ignore.

* Disposal: Safely discard the containers in a sealed trash bag where other animals or children cannot access them. This recall serves as a stark reminder for pet parents to stay vigilant regarding potentially contaminated products. Always keep an eye on official FDA bulletins to ensure the health and longevity of your pets.

Understanding the Risks of Salmonella in Pets
