# From Betting Algorithms to Pro-Level Coaching: The Evolution of iTero

The landscape of competitive *League of Legends* has been fundamentally altered by the rapid ascent of iTero. The AI-driven coaching platform, now under the banner of the prominent LEC organization GIANTX (formerly known as XL Esports), has officially surpassed the 1,000,000 download mark. This significant achievement underscores a period of explosive expansion for the tool, particularly following its strategic acquisition in 2024.

## The Unlikely Origins of a Data Powerhouse

The genesis of iTero is far removed from the polished interface users interact with today. Its founder, Jack Williams, was previously a consultant at Deloitte who found himself in a unique predicament: he had been blacklisted from every major UK betting platform. His crime? He was simply too accurate at predicting esports outcomes.

The turning point occurred during a visit to Twickenham. Williams realized that the sophisticated predictive modeling he had developed for wagering could be repurposed for something far more constructive. By pivoting from betting to performance analytics-and with the essential integration support from Overwolf-the platform evolved from a niche tool into a comprehensive coaching assistant accessible to both professional athletes and casual players looking to climb the ranked ladder.

## Redefining Esports Analytics and Scouting As AI continues to permeate the gaming industry, the line between helpful coaching and unfair advantage becomes increasingly thin. Our discussion explored the complexities of navigating Riot Games’ strict regulatory environment and the ethical considerations surrounding the future of AI-assisted gameplay. As the industry matures, the challenge remains: how do we leverage machine learning to elevate player skill without crossing the threshold into AI-assisted cheating?

The success of iTero serves as a testament to the growing demand for data-driven improvement in esports. With over a million users now utilizing its insights to refine their champion pools and decision-making, the platform is setting a new standard for how players interact with the game’s underlying data.

We recently caught up with Williams to dissect the trajectory of iTero. The conversation spanned its transformation from a system designed to exploit market inefficiencies to its current role as a premier scouting engine for the LEC.
