Carl Cox Dives Into Disco Roots for [UNVRS] Ibiza Showcase

Ahead of his highly anticipated back-to-back performance with house music royalty Louie Vega at [UNVRS] Ibiza on September 13th, electronic music icon Carl Cox treated fans to a glimpse of his curated selection of classic disco anthems. The veteran DJ emphasized that this particular set required a departure from his usual high-octane techno sound, opting instead to explore the soulful foundations of dance music.

In a post shared on his Instagram account, the UK legend explained his creative process: “I’m switching things up tonight, digging deep into the collection and pulling out some of my all-time favourite disco records for a very special B2B with Louie Vega.”

A Curated Selection of Dance Floor Classics

To build anticipation for the event, Cox released a video highlighting four essential tracks that have shaped his musical journey. Among the gems featured were the 1977 Ashford & Simpson hit “Don’t Cost You Nothin'” and the timeless groove of Patrice Rushen’s “Forget Me Nots.” By spotlighting these records, Cox showcased the enduring influence of disco on modern club culture, proving that even in a state-of-the-art venue like [UNVRS], the classic sounds of the 70s and 80s remain vital.

A Landmark Residency at [UNVRS]

The [UNVRS] Ibiza residency has become a focal point of the summer season, serving as a platform for Cox to collaborate with a diverse array of industry heavyweights. Throughout the series, he has shared the booth with an impressive roster of talent, including David Guetta, Joseph Capriati, The Martinez Brothers, Chris Stussy, Dennis Cruz, Nicole Moudaber, and WhoMadeWho. This collaborative spirit has solidified the residency as one of the most dynamic experiences on the island.

Celebrating a Career of Excellence

Beyond his performance schedule, 2025 has been a year of significant personal and professional milestones for the Oldham-born artist. His contributions to the global music scene were formally recognized when he was awarded an OBE in the King’s Birthday Honours list. Further cementing his status as a cultural ambassador, he visited King Charles at Buckingham Palace to commemorate the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust-a full-circle moment for the DJ, who received a grant from the organization at age 24 to kickstart his career.

Currently ranked No. 25 in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll 2025, Cox continues to demonstrate his relevance in an ever-evolving industry. Fans can keep track of his ongoing summer [UNVRS] Ibiza residency as he continues to push the boundaries of electronic performance.
