The recent “Save The Rave” event, hosted at The Royal Cornwall Showground in Wadebridge this past Saturday, September 12, has ignited a firestorm of criticism. Marketed as an immersive, open-air celebration of 90s dance culture and iconic club anthems, the reality fell drastically short of expectations. In fact, the backlash has been so severe that many disgruntled participants and artists are drawing direct comparisons to the infamous 2017 Fyre Festival.

### Attendance Shortfalls and Financial Fallout ### Operational Failures and Hygiene Concerns The general consensus among those who attended is one of betrayal. Many have labeled the experience a “scam,” citing a stark disconnect between the high-energy marketing campaign and the lackluster, poorly executed reality on the ground.

### Supporting the Real Scene Support Your Local Club: Shop the Mixmag range here

According to coverage by Cornwall Live, the festival failed to attract the massive crowds organizers had anticipated. This lack of foot traffic created a domino effect of financial distress. Vendors who had prepared for a high-volume event found themselves facing significant losses. One business owner reported a staggering £7,000 deficit, noting that the organizers’ assurances regarding financial compensation have yet to materialize.

Beyond the financial mismanagement, the event was plagued by reports of poor organization and questionable sanitary standards. Attendees took to social media to voice their frustrations, with one viral Facebook post highlighting a particularly alarming incident at the bar. The guest alleged that staff members were handling ice intended for beverages with their bare hands, raising serious health and safety concerns.

While large-scale events can sometimes falter, the heart of dance music remains in the grassroots venues that prioritize community and quality. If you want to support the industry properly, consider investing in local nightlife.
