During a recent conversation at Gamescom, James Schall, the company\u2019s Chief Publishing Officer, highlighted the “phenomenal growth” the firm has experienced over the last year and a half. The team\u2019s initial long-term roadmap, which was meticulously designed to span until 2030, proved to be far too conservative; according to Schall, the company effectively eclipsed those ambitious targets in a mere four-month window.<\/p>\n
The transition to independence was facilitated by a strategic injection of capital from Emona Capital. Schall noted that the process of untangling Secret Mode from Sumo Digital was surprisingly straightforward. He also expressed gratitude toward Tencent, describing the tech giant as a supportive partner throughout the transition. “The speed at which we were able to finalize the separation from Sumo was staggering, and the entire experience remained constructive for all parties involved,” Schall remarked.<\/p>\n
The decision to part ways was a logical evolution for both organizations. Following Tencent\u2019s acquisition of Sumo in early 2022, the Chinese conglomerate began a period of internal assessment to streamline its vast portfolio of assets. As Schall pointed out, maintaining a redundant network of nearly two dozen publishing arms was simply not a sustainable or necessary strategy for a company of Tencent\u2019s scale.
