# Setting the Record Straight: Chris Hansen Counters ‘Primetime’ with Upcoming Documentary

After experiencing Lance Oppenheim’s *Primetime* firsthand, veteran journalist Chris Hansen is pushing back against the film’s stylized narrative. Rather than feeling targeted by the dramatized portrayal, Hansen describes his reaction as one of pure bewilderment, ultimately assigning the movie a failing grade of “D.”

### A Disconnect from Reality “It’s so far removed from reality that it wouldn’t even bother me,” Hansen remarked, noting that the film’s creative liberties left him more confused than insulted.

### Taking Control of the Narrative: ‘I Am Chris Hansen’ While the timing of the announcement follows the release of Oppenheim’s film, Hansen clarified that this project was already in motion long before *Primetime* hit the radar. He emphasized that this upcoming documentary is a collaborative effort, produced by a team he trusts and with whom he has a long-standing professional relationship.

### Why the Documentary Matters As he shops the project to various streaming platforms, the goal remains clear: to offer audiences an authentic look at the man behind the headlines, stripping away the “fever dream” filters to reveal the actual mechanics of his investigative career.

Hansen recently attended a public screening of Primetime in the heart of Times Square. Immersed in an audience of casual viewers, he found the cinematic interpretation of his career to be jarringly detached from his actual experiences. For a man whose professional life has been defined by the pursuit of objective truth, the “fever dream” aesthetic of the film felt less like a biography and more like a work of fiction.

In response to the buzz surrounding *Primetime*, Hansen has confirmed that he is reclaiming his own story. During a candid interview with Jesse Watters, Hansen revealed that he has been developing his own documentary project, titled *I Am Chris Hansen*.

The documentary landscape has seen a massive surge in popularity, with streaming platforms reporting a 30% increase in viewership for biographical non-fiction over the last three years. By producing *I Am Chris Hansen*, the journalist aims to provide a grounded, factual counter-narrative to the sensationalism often found in modern dramatizations.
