## Celebrating Industry Visionaries: Highlights from the 2026 Ivors Academy Honours

On Thursday, October 1, the London music scene gathered at the Intercontinental London Park Lane for the second annual Ivors Academy Honours. This prestigious event serves as a platform to celebrate the trailblazers, executives, and creative minds whose leadership and advocacy are actively building a more equitable landscape for composers and songwriters worldwide.

### A New Tradition of Excellence ### 2026 Honorees: Shaping the Future The recognition of these individuals underscores the Academy’s commitment to systemic change. For instance, James Blake was specifically honored for his dedicated efforts to bring clarity to the often-opaque world of songwriting royalties and distribution agreements. During his acceptance speech, Blake emphasized the necessity of industry-wide reform, stating, “I believe that transparency will unlock the limitless potential that is currently being left on the table.”

### Why Advocacy Matters in Music The event serves as a vital reminder that the health of the music ecosystem depends not just on the hits produced, but on the structural integrity of the deals that support the people who write them.

While The Ivors Academy is long-renowned for its flagship Ivor Novello Awards-which in May 2026 saw global icons like Elton John, Harry Styles, Thom Yorke, and Rosalía grace the stage-the “Honours” event is a newer addition to the calendar. Launched in 2025 to spotlight those working behind the scenes to improve industry standards, the inaugural ceremony recognized figures such as Sony Music Publishing CEO Jon Platt and singer-songwriter RAYE.

This year’s ceremony continued that mission, bestowing accolades upon influential figures including Stormzy, James Blake, and Emily Eavis.

The music industry is currently navigating a period of rapid transformation, driven by the rise of AI-generated content and shifting streaming economics. According to recent industry reports, the global music publishing sector has seen significant growth, yet songwriters often struggle to secure a fair share of this revenue. By highlighting leaders who prioritize ethical business practices and creator rights, The Ivors Academy is helping to set a benchmark for how the industry should evolve.
