The competitive League of Legends scene is currently addressing a disciplinary matter involving Kim “Zest” Dong-min. The LOS top laner has been issued a fine following an unprofessional gesture directed toward opponents after his team’s recent triumph over LOUD. News of the sanction surfaced on Friday, October 2, via Sheep Esports, highlighting the league’s commitment to maintaining professional conduct standards.

While Riot Games has maintained silence regarding an official public announcement, reports indicate that the penalty involves a baseline fine of R$5,000 (roughly $958 USD as of early October). The precise financial burden placed on the player remains unverified, though it has been noted that the LOS organization has stepped in, offering to settle the debt on behalf of their athlete. This move reflects a growing trend in esports where organizations often absorb administrative fines to protect their players from personal financial strain during high-pressure tournament cycles.

The controversy stems from the high-stakes LOS vs. LOUD upper bracket final, which took place on Sunday, September 27. The match, a grueling 3-2 victory for LOS, was a pivotal moment in the CBLOL 2026 season. In the heat of the post-match celebration, Zest’s decision to display an offensive hand gesture drew immediate scrutiny from league officials.

In professional sports, such outbursts are rarely tolerated. Much like the strict conduct codes enforced by traditional leagues such as the NBA or FIFA, Riot Games utilizes these fines to ensure that the League of Legends ecosystem remains welcoming to sponsors and fans alike. Despite the player’s initial willingness to accept personal responsibility for the fine, the organization’s intervention underscores the intense pressure and emotional volatility inherent in professional esports competition.

Financial Implications and Organizational Support
