### Paramount Pictures Takes Aim at Night City: A Live-Action Cyberpunk 2077 Project

As of October 8, 2026, the neon-drenched streets of Night City are officially heading to the big screen. Paramount Pictures has confirmed it is in the early stages of developing a live-action feature film based on the globally acclaimed *Cyberpunk 2077* franchise.

#### A High-Stakes Collaboration

The production is set to be spearheaded by industry veteran Lorenzo di Bonaventura. Having previously steered massive blockbuster franchises like *Transformers* and *G.I. Joe*, di Bonaventura brings a wealth of experience in translating high-octane action properties into cinematic spectacles.

Crucially, the project is a collaborative effort with CD Projekt Red (CDPR), the original developers of the game. This partnership suggests a commitment to maintaining the gritty, high-tech aesthetic that defined the source material. While the project is officially in motion, the studio has yet to announce a screenwriter, director, or any cast members.

#### Expanding the Cyberpunk Universe

One of the most pressing questions for fans is whether the film will be a direct retelling of V’s journey from the 2020 game or an original narrative set within the same dystopian world. Given the success of the critically acclaimed Netflix series *Cyberpunk: Edgerunners*, which successfully expanded the lore without strictly adhering to the game’s main plot, there is a strong precedent for the studio to explore new corners of the Cyberpunk universe.

Michał Nowakowski, co-CEO of CD Projekt Red, shared his enthusiasm for the venture via social media. “We’re excited about Paramount as a future partner who shares our creative ambitions for the Cyberpunk franchise,” Nowakowski stated. “We look forward to sharing more details at the appropriate time.”

#### The Potential for Star Power

Should Paramount decide to adapt the core game, they have a unique advantage: the existing talent pool. The game’s immersive experience was bolstered by A-list performances, most notably Keanu Reeves as the rebellious, digital specter Johnny Silverhand. Additionally, the *Phantom Liberty* expansion introduced Idris Elba, whose portrayal of Solomon Reed added significant depth to the game’s narrative.

While it remains to be seen if these stars will reprise their roles in a live-action format, their involvement in the game has already set a high bar for the caliber of acting expected in this adaptation. As the industry continues to see a surge in successful video game-to-film transitions-such as the massive box office returns for *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* and the critical acclaim of *The Last of Us*-the *Cyberpunk 2077* film is positioned to be a major player in the next wave of gaming adaptations.
