As the highly anticipated release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 approaches, Activision and Infinity Ward have refined their rollout strategy. In a recent update, the developers confirmed that the DMZ mode will now be included in the early access period, giving pre-order customers a head start on the action before the official global launch later this month.

Players who have secured their copy of the game-whether through the standard edition or the premium Vault Edition-are now entitled to a staggered release schedule. This early access initiative spans across all major platforms, including PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and the Nintendo Switch 2.

The deployment schedule is structured as follows: To accompany this announcement, the studio released a fresh gameplay trailer showcasing the revamped mechanics of the DMZ experience, providing a glimpse into the tactical improvements players can expect.

The DMZ mode first debuted in 2022 as Call of Duty’s foray into the high-stakes “extraction shooter” genre. While the initial iteration served as a foundational experiment, it faced criticism from the community for feeling like an unfinished prototype.

Industry analysts note that the extraction shooter market has become increasingly competitive, with titles like Escape from Tarkov and Hunt: Showdown setting high bars for player retention. Recent data suggests that for Modern Warfare 4 to succeed, the revamped DMZ must offer deeper progression systems and more meaningful risk-reward loops than its predecessor. By integrating it into the early access window, Infinity Ward is clearly signaling that this mode is a cornerstone of the Modern Warfare 4 ecosystem rather than an experimental side project.

A Tiered Rollout for Pre-Order Customers
