## Blumhouse and MatPat Join Forces to Bring Indie Horror to the Big Screen

The landscape of cinematic horror is shifting as Blumhouse Productions officially announces a strategic collaboration with internet personality Matthew “MatPat” Patrick. This creative alliance aims to translate the chilling narratives of viral indie horror games into feature-length films, with the unsettling puzzle-adventure Amanda the Adventurer serving as the inaugural project.

### A New Era for Digital Horror Adaptations “I am proud to announce that I’m working with Blumhouse to launch some new movies,” MatPat stated during the event. “I am taking some of my all-time favorite indie games and horror channels from the interwebs and partnering with Blumhouse to bring them to the big screen.”

### Unpacking the Amanda the Adventurer Project According to the production team, the project is gaining significant momentum. MatPat noted that they are currently in active negotiations with screenwriters and directors, emphasizing that the team is “moving fast” to transition the game from digital screens to theaters.

### Beyond the Jump Scares: The Philosophy of the Adaptation The adaptation seeks to explore deeper societal anxieties, specifically regarding the influence of digital content. “It’s horror with heart,” MatPat explained. “It asks the question, ‘Can you trust the media being put in front of your kids?’”

This focus on “media literacy horror” mirrors the growing trend of psychological thrillers that prioritize thematic substance alongside traditional scares. As indie horror games continue to dominate streaming platforms-with some titles garnering tens of millions of views-this partnership represents a calculated move to capitalize on established, highly engaged fanbases.

During a high-profile panel at New York Comic Con 2026, representatives from both the studio and the content creator confirmed that this is merely the beginning of a broader slate. MatPat, known for his deep-dive analysis of gaming lore, revealed that he is actively developing multiple adaptations, bridging the gap between online gaming culture and traditional Hollywood production.

The first title in this pipeline, *Amanda the Adventurer*, centers on a player navigating a disturbing mystery hidden within the framework of a low-budget, vintage-style children’s television program. The game’s unique aesthetic-which mimics the eerie, uncanny valley feel of 90s educational media-has made it a standout in the indie scene.

While the film will undoubtedly lean into the horror genre, the creators are aiming for a narrative depth that resonates with modern audiences. MatPat highlighted the emotional complexity of the titular character, describing her as both a terrifying antagonist and a tragic figure.
