Margate’s own Red Rebel FM is taking a bold step toward diversifying the local music scene by introducing a series of complimentary DJing and wellness workshops. Designed specifically for FLINTA-identifying individuals (women, trans, and non-binary people) aged 18 to 25, this initiative aims to dismantle barriers to entry within the electronic music industry.

### Bridging the Gap in Thanet’s Music Scene This initiative arrives at a critical time for the UK music sector. As highlighted in recent reports, organizations like Youth Music have recently surpassed a £1 million milestone in direct investments for emerging talent, proving that targeted financial and educational support is essential for fostering a more equitable creative landscape.

### A Holistic Approach to Creative Development What sets this course apart is its integration of “menstrual cycle-aware support.” By acknowledging the biological and emotional fluctuations that can impact creative output, the program allows participants to tailor their learning pace to match their personal energy levels and comfort, ensuring a sustainable approach to skill-building.

### From the Classroom to the Airwaves ### Industry Backing for Local Talent

The project, titled *Red Rebel Futures*, is set to host introductory taster sessions every Friday from October 23 through November 6. These sessions will take place at the Arts Ed Exchange on Northdown Road in Cliftonville, providing a welcoming space for aspiring creatives to explore their potential.

Beyond technical instruction, the program distinguishes itself through a focus on holistic health. The core of the project is an eight-week intensive course limited to 10 participants. According to reporting by The Isle of Thanet News, the curriculum covers essential skills such as professional mixing techniques and radio broadcasting.

Founded by Lisa Higgins, the visionary behind The Red Rebel Collective, the station is committed to providing a platform for its students. Participants won’t just learn behind the scenes; they will be given the opportunity to host live takeovers on the station. Furthermore, the program offers a pathway for graduates to continue submitting their own shows, ensuring that the skills learned during the eight-week course translate into long-term broadcasting opportunities.

The *Red Rebel Futures* project is made possible through the generous support of industry heavyweights Youth Music and Beatport. By investing in the FLINTA community in Thanet, these organizations are helping to ensure that the future of radio and DJ culture is as diverse as the music itself.
