A Cinematic Standout: The Official Trailer for ‘Josephine’ Arrives

The wait is finally over for one of the most critically acclaimed motion pictures of 2026. Sumerian Pictures has officially dropped the full-length trailer for Josephine, a film that has maintained a firm spot on my personal Top 10 list throughout the year. Following its successful festival circuit run, the movie is poised for a wide release this autumn.

From Sundance Success to Global Acclaim

Directed by the visionary Beth de Araújo, Josephine marks her second major feature film. The project first garnered significant buzz during the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where it achieved the rare feat of securing both the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award. The momentum has only continued to build, with recent screenings at the London and Warsaw Film Festivals drawing universal praise from audiences and critics alike.

A Haunting Exploration of Trauma

The narrative centers on an eight-year-old girl named Josephine, whose life is irrevocably altered after she inadvertently witnesses a brutal crime within the confines of Golden Gate Park. The film masterfully depicts the psychological fallout of this event, as the young protagonist begins exhibiting aggressive behavioral patterns as a misguided defense mechanism.

As the family unit struggles to navigate the aftermath, the story delves into the friction between her parents, played by Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan, as they grapple with the dual challenge of seeking legal justice and restoring a sense of security in their home. Much like the tension found in modern psychological thrillers such as The Invisible Man or Room, Josephine serves as a harrowing mirror to the fractures within our contemporary society.

Star-Studded Performances

The film is anchored by a breakout performance from newcomer Mason Reeves in the title role. Supporting Reeves are industry heavyweights Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan, who deliver deeply vulnerable portrayals of parents in crisis. The ensemble cast is rounded out by Philip Ettinger, Syra McCarthy, and Eleanore Pienta, all of whom contribute to the film’s intense, grounded atmosphere.
