James Gunn, the co-chairman of DC Studios, has officially stepped in to silence the rumor mill regarding the future of the DC Universe. In a recent update, he clarified the status of key projects and addressed unfounded claims circulating on social media, specifically regarding the casting of Supergirl.

The internet recently spiraled into a frenzy of speculation after fans noticed that actress Milly Alcock had scrubbed her Instagram profile of posts related to her upcoming role as Kara Zor-El. This digital cleanup led many to conclude that she had been dismissed from the project. However, Gunn took to Threads on October 16 to unequivocally debunk these claims, confirming that Alcock remains firmly attached to the role.

While social media platforms often act as a breeding ground for misinformation-with fan accounts frequently misinterpreting social media activity as official production news-Gunn expressed a weary frustration with the constant need to correct the record. Despite the exhaustion of managing these persistent myths, he prioritized transparency to ensure fans have accurate information regarding the studio’s slate.

Beyond the Supergirl casting rumors, Gunn addressed concerns regarding the creative leadership of the DC Elseworlds label. He reiterated that Matt Reeves is still fully committed to helming The Batman Part II. Despite persistent, baseless claims suggesting Reeves had stepped down, the studio has consistently maintained that the director is deeply involved in the sequel’s development.

In addition to clearing up these misconceptions, Gunn provided a promising update on the production timeline for the DCU. He confirmed that he is scheduled to present an early cut of Man of Tomorrow to his co-chairman, Peter Safran, later today. This milestone marks a significant step forward for the project, signaling that the film is progressing steadily through its post-production phase.

As the DC Universe continues to take shape, the studio remains focused on delivering its ambitious roadmap. With major titles currently in various stages of development, Gunn’s direct communication serves as a vital tool in managing expectations and maintaining fan confidence amidst the noise of online speculation.

Setting the Record Straight on Milly Alcock
