If you are heading to the theater to catch the latest adaptation of the iconic fighting game franchise, you might be wondering if it is worth staying through the final credits. Warning: The following section contains major plot spoilers for the 2026 Street Fighter film.

The 2026 release marks the third attempt to bring the legendary Capcom series to live-action cinema, following the campy 1994 original and the critically panned 2009 spin-off, The Legend of Chun-Li. While the franchise has struggled to find its footing on the big screen, this latest iteration manages to improve upon its predecessors. As highlighted in Tom Jorgensen’s Street Fighter review for IGN, while the film isn’t a flawless masterpiece, it is a significant step up from the disastrous 2009 effort.

The narrative focuses on the fractured bond between childhood friends Ryu (Andrew Koji) and Ken (Noah Centineo). Their paths cross once again when they are scouted by Chun-Li (Callina Liang) to compete in the second iteration of the World Warrior tournament.

The event is orchestrated by the malevolent Shadaloo leader, M. Bison (David Dastmalchian). While the tournament serves as a spectacle for the world’s elite combatants, Bison’s true intentions are far more sinister. He is obsessed with capturing Ryu-the reigning champion of the inaugural tournament-to siphon his “Hado Power.” By harvesting this energy, Bison hopes to master the legendary Hadouken technique, granting him god-like control over the battlefield.

The enduring appeal of Street Fighter is undeniable. Since its debut in 1987, the series has defined the fighting game genre. With the global esports market projected to reach over $2 billion in revenue by 2025, it is no surprise that studios are eager to capitalize on the brand’s massive, multi-generational fanbase. While this film attempts to modernize the lore, the inclusion of the mid-credits scene suggests that the studio is already looking toward potential sequels or expanded universe storytelling.

A New Chapter in the Street Fighter Legacy
