## A Galactic Gridiron: Super Bowl LXI Gets the Star Wars Treatment

The NFL and Disney are set to redefine the championship viewing experience by transporting Super Bowl LXI to a galaxy far, far away. On February 14, 2027, viewers can tune into a fully animated, real-time “alternate telecast” of the big game, streaming exclusively on Disney+ and the ESPN App, with additional airings on Disney Channel and Disney XD.

This ambitious project, officially titled “Star Wars Funday Football,” promises to integrate iconic figures from the expansive Lucasfilm universe into the live action. Notably, the production will feature the return of Anthony Daniels, who is slated to reprise his legendary role as the protocol droid C-3PO.

### Building on a Legacy of Animated Innovation

While this marks the first time the Super Bowl has received an animated makeover, it is far from the first experiment of its kind. This broadcast represents the fourth iteration of the “Funday Football” series, a collaborative effort between Disney, ESPN, and the NFL. The franchise has seen consistent success, beginning with the Sports Emmy-winning *Toy Story Funday Football* in 2023, followed by *The Simpsons Funday Football* in 2024, and *Monsters Funday Football* in 2025.

By leveraging these creative partnerships, Disney aims to provide a fresh, accessible entry point for younger audiences and casual viewers to engage with the NFL’s premier event.

### The Technology Behind the Magic

The seamless transition from live professional football to an animated Star Wars setting is powered by cutting-edge data visualization tools. Developed by Sony’s Beyond Sports, this technology captures live player tracking data and translates it into high-fidelity animation instantaneously.

To the casual observer, the result is a unique visual hybrid: the raw, high-stakes athleticism of elite NFL players rendered with the aesthetic polish of a high-end, licensed video game. This tech-forward approach ensures that every pass, tackle, and touchdown is mirrored in the virtual environment without sacrificing the integrity of the game’s outcome.
