The landscape of Richard Hammond’s life has undergone a radical transformation. The former *Top Gear* icon, widely recognized for his high-octane career alongside Jeremy Clarkson, has opened up about the profound personal shifts he has navigated since early 2025. Following his separation from Amanda “Mindy” Hammond-his partner of over two decades-the 56-year-old has embraced a surprisingly minimalist existence that he credits for his newfound sense of peace.

During a candid appearance on the High Performance podcast, Hammond detailed the series of significant life events that have defined his recent years. Beyond the dissolution of his marriage, he has faced a cascade of personal challenges, including the passing of his father and the loss of a beloved family pet.

These emotional hurdles were compounded by major financial and lifestyle changes. After departing from his long-term residence at Bollitree Castle, the sprawling Herefordshire estate that once served as his family home, Hammond found himself navigating a much simpler reality. He noted that a substantial portion of the wealth accumulated during his tenure on The Grand Tour has been redistributed, yet he remains remarkably unbothered by the reduction in his material assets.

For many, the loss of a high-profile career, a historic home, and a long-term marriage would be viewed as a period of crisis. However, Hammond describes his current living situation-a modest rented farmhouse-as a sanctuary. He refers to this space as his “divorce cottage,” a place where the shedding of his former life has allowed him to rediscover his own identity.

Psychologists often note that major life transitions, while painful, can act as a “reset button” for personal growth. Much like a professional athlete retiring from the spotlight to find fulfillment in coaching or private life, Hammond’s transition suggests that true contentment is often found when the external pressures of status and property are stripped away.

Now in a relationship with therapist Keira “Kiki” Glen, Hammond appears to be prioritizing emotional well-being over the trappings of his past fame. His journey serves as a reminder that even after the most public of divorces, it is possible to reconstruct a life that feels more authentic and grounded.

The “Divorce Cottage” Philosophy
