Production on the highly anticipated Miami Vice ‘85 hit a volatile snag this past Friday evening when a man brandishing a blade confronted crew members on the Brooklyn filming location. The incident, which occurred late at night, forced an immediate intervention by law enforcement stationed at the site.

According to official statements from the NYPD, the individual identified as 23-year-old Alex Perez was taken into custody following the altercation. TMZ reports that Perez, who has a documented history of criminal activity, was apprehended by an officer providing security for the production team at approximately 11:17 PM.

Footage of the confrontation, which has since circulated online, shows a staff member attempting to escort Perez away from the filming area. As he was being removed, Perez pulled a large knife from his sweatshirt. Witnesses noted that even while being restrained and handcuffed by police, the suspect continued to act aggressively, directing racial slurs toward the production staff.

Perez is currently facing serious legal repercussions, including charges of criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree and menacing with a weapon in the 2nd degree. Such incidents highlight the growing concerns regarding set security in urban environments, where high-profile productions often face unpredictable public interactions.

The New York City shoot has been a focal point for fans, as the production has been busy capturing scenes featuring Michael B. Jordan and John Leguizamo. These sequences are reportedly designed to serve as a meticulous homage to the iconic opening moments of the original TV series.

Helmed by director Joseph Kosinski, the film is heavily inspired by the series’ two-part pilot, titled “Brother’s Keeper.” By drawing from the aesthetic and narrative foundation of the show’s inaugural season, the production aims to capture the gritty, neon-soaked atmosphere that defined the 1980s classic. Despite the recent security scare, filming is expected to continue as the team works to maintain the integrity of their vision for this modern reimagining.

Details of the Arrest
