# The Future of Horror: Behaviour Interactive Addresses Licensing Departures in Dead by Daylight

*Dead by Daylight* has long cemented its reputation as the definitive digital “House of Horror,” bringing together the most iconic villains in cinematic history. However, recent shifts in the game’s roster have left the community concerned about the longevity of their favorite licensed characters.

## Navigating the Complexities of Licensing

Following the recent announcement that the infamous Good Guy, Chucky, would be pulled from digital storefronts, Behaviour Interactive has stepped forward to clarify the situation. This departure follows a trend of high-profile exits, including the recent removal of Michael Myers and the earlier departure of Pinhead.

For many players, these removals feel like a sudden loss of content. However, the development team emphasizes that these decisions are rarely within their control. While the studio’s primary objective is to secure permanent licensing agreements, the reality of intellectual property law often dictates otherwise. As of 2026, the landscape of digital media rights remains volatile; industry data suggests that licensing contracts for horror franchises are increasingly becoming short-term, often tied to specific promotional windows or shifting studio ownerships.

## An Open Door Policy for Iconic Killers

Despite the frustration surrounding these exits, Behaviour Interactive maintains a positive outlook regarding the future. In a recent statement, the developers clarified that any horror icon removed due to licensing expiration retains an “open invitation” to return to the game.

Think of these departures not as a permanent “game over,” but rather as a temporary intermission. Just as a classic film might leave a streaming service only to return months later due to renewed distribution deals, the developers are actively working to ensure that the door remains unlocked for these legendary figures to make a comeback.

## Why Roster Stability Matters

The community’s reaction is a testament to how deeply integrated these characters have become in the *Dead by Daylight* experience. When a character like Chucky-who introduced unique, third-person mechanics-is removed, it impacts the variety of the gameplay loop.

While no one wants to see the game’s expansive library of Killers and Survivors dwindle, the studio remains committed to transparency. By prioritizing long-term negotiations, Behaviour Interactive hopes to minimize future disruptions, ensuring that the “House of Horror” remains as crowded and terrifying as possible for years to come.
