The professional League of Legends landscape is bracing for a significant shift as reports from Inven Global indicate that Hanwha Life Esports top laner Choi “Zeus” Woo-je has declined an offer to extend his current contract. With his two-year tenure at HLE nearing its conclusion, the elite top laner is opting to test his market value as the upcoming Free Agent (FA) window approaches.

This development follows a grueling competitive season for the organization. HLE’s journey in the 2026 Worlds Swiss Stage ended prematurely after a high-stakes best-of-three series against Bilibili Gaming. The path through the tournament proved to be a gauntlet; despite entering the event with the momentum of their Mid-Season Invitational title, the squad faced a brutal draw. Their exit was finalized after consecutive setbacks against formidable international titans, including Gen.G and Invictus Gaming.

In the world of professional esports, player movement is often dictated by the “championship window.” Much like a star quarterback entering free agency after a deep playoff run, Zeus’s decision to decline a renewal suggests he is looking to capitalize on his status as one of the world’s premier top laners. With the FA market opening, teams looking to bolster their roster with a proven MSI-winning caliber player will likely be aggressive in their pursuit. As organizations look to rebuild for the 2027 season, Zeus stands out as perhaps the most coveted asset available, signaling a potentially massive shake-up in the LCK hierarchy.

A Challenging Campaign at Worlds 2026
