Nowhere is this truer than Algonquin Park. It sits in the heart of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/ontario-tourism\">Ontario<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/north-america\/canada\">Canadian<\/a> province with the most lakes and home to one-fifth of the world\u2019s freshwater. <\/p>\n<p>Though this nugget of information couldn\u2019t be further from my mind as I paddle my canoe on the indigo waters of Canoe Lake. The only movement breaking the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/uk\/best-lakes-uk-lake-district-cornwall-scotland-b2961860.html\">lake<\/a>\u2019s stillness comes from the trees swaying in the breeze and a curious loon popping his black head out of the water to inspect me with his red, beady eyes before diving back in.<\/p>\n<p>Though it\u2019s my first time in Algonquin Park \u2013 and my first time on a canoe, escorted by an<a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/algonquinoutfitters.com\/daytrip\/guided-canoe-lake-half-day-trip\/\"> Algonquin Outfitters<\/a> expert guide \u2013 I feel I\u2019ve seen this before: the orange, teal, and emerald trees, their summer and autumnal palette mixing in the elements, and the lake glittering around me.<\/p>\n<p>The landscapes were familiar to me from art books, and from seeing them hanging in all their glory in the <a rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gallery.ca\/\">National Gallery of Canada<\/a> in Ottawa \u2013 from the iconic <em>The Jack Pine<\/em>,<\/p>\n<p> <a class=\"echo_read_more\" href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/travel\/north-america\/canada\/group-of-seven-art-tour-ontario-canada-tom-thomson-b3079246.html\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0More Info >>><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some places can only be discovered from the water.
