Road to Riyadh: Previewing the Esports Nations Cup 2026 Regional Qualifiers

The global stage is set for the Esports Nations Cup 2026, with the grand finale slated for November 2 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Before the world’s best national squads descend upon the Middle East, the path to qualification begins with a high-stakes series of regional battles. Running from June 29 through July 1, the EWC Foundation has structured these qualifiers across eight distinct territories to determine the final lineup.

Qualification Structure and Regional Distribution

The distribution of tournament slots has sparked significant discussion within the community. Most regions have been granted two coveted spots in the main event. However, the EWC Foundation has limited both North America and Sub-Saharan Africa to a single representative each. This decision reflects the current competitive landscape and the historical performance metrics of these specific regions in the global Dota 2 ecosystem.

South and East Asia: A Path of Opportunity

While Southeast Asia is a well-documented powerhouse, the South and East Asia bracket offers a unique narrative. With only five nations vying for two available slots, this region presents one of the most statistically favorable paths to Riyadh. The field includes:

  • Mongolia
  • Bangladesh
  • India
  • Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka

Mongolia enters the fray as the heavy favorite, bolstered by a proven track record in international national-level competitions. Meanwhile, Pakistan remains a formidable contender for the second position, particularly if they leverage the veteran experience of star player Yawar to anchor their roster.

South America: Expanding Competitive Horizons

Despite a smaller pool of participating nations, South America has been awarded two slots. This allocation acknowledges the region’s rapid growth and the surge of professional talent emerging from the continent over the last two quarters. The contenders are:

  • Chile
  • Peru
  • Paraguay
  • Colombia
  • Argentina
  • Venezuela
  • Ecuador
  • Bolivia

The landscape shifted recently when Brazil secured a direct entry following the high-level performance of LGD Gaming at Blast Slam VII. With the Brazilian powerhouse absent from the qualifiers, Peru stands out as the clear frontrunner to claim the first of the two available tickets, leaving the second spot as a wide-open contest for the remaining nations.

North America: The Battle for a Single Ticket

The North American qualifier is arguably the most pressurized, as the USA has already bypassed this stage via direct ranking invitation. This leaves seven nations fighting for a solitary spot:

  • Canada
  • Cuba
  • Costa Rica
  • Mexico
  • Honduras
  • Guatemala
  • Panama

Canada is widely expected to dominate this bracket. Their roster depth, featuring several high-profile professional players, makes them the team to beat. While Mexico possesses individual talent, they face an uphill battle to overcome the tactical cohesion of the Canadian squad.

Sub-Saharan Africa: Scouting for Hidden Potential

The Sub-Saharan African qualifiers feature nine nations competing for one final spot. Given the region’s developing infrastructure in the professional Dota 2 scene, this qualifier serves as a vital scouting ground for emerging talent. The competing nations are:

  • Nigeria
  • Ghana
  • South Africa
  • Cameroon
  • Zambia
  • Malawi
  • Côte d’Ivoire
  • Kenya
  • Madagascar

With no singular dominant force in the region

Road to ENC 2026: Analyzing the Regional Qualifier Landscape

The Esports Nations Cup (ENC) 2026 is shaping up to be a monumental event in the Dota 2 calendar. As the qualification process intensifies, the global stage is set for a clash of titans. Below, we break down the regional dynamics, key contenders, and the strategic narratives unfolding across the qualifiers.

Western Europe: The Elite Battleground

Western Europe remains the epicenter of professional Dota 2. Interestingly, the qualifier field here is more compact than anticipated, largely because several top-tier nations have already secured their spots via the ENC Ranking system. Despite the smaller pool, the intensity remains unmatched.

The following nations are vying for the final two qualification berths:

  • Norway
  • Italy
  • Belgium
  • Switzerland
  • France
  • Great Britain
  • Ireland
  • Iceland
  • Portugal
  • Finland

In this region, depth of talent is the primary currency. With the current meta favoring high-tempo execution, teams that can integrate veteran leadership with rising pub-star talent will likely emerge victorious.

Eastern Europe: A Crowded Path to Glory

Eastern Europe presents a logistical and competitive gauntlet, with 14 nations battling for just two available slots. The region is defined by its unpredictability and a high density of mechanical skill.

The Contender List:

  • Greece
  • Serbia
  • Hungary
  • Israel
  • Czechia
  • Slovenia
  • Croatia
  • Lithuania
  • Romania
  • Latvia
  • Slovakia
  • Kosovo
  • Estonia
  • Montenegro

While the field is wide, the consensus points toward a four-way struggle between Romania, Czechia, Serbia, and Greece. Czechia currently holds a slight edge; their roster composition aligns perfectly with the current professional meta, allowing them to adapt more fluidly than their peers. Notably, the inclusion of Israel in this bracket-rather than the Middle East-adds a unique geopolitical and competitive twist to the regional dynamics.

The MENA and Central Asia Corridor

Spanning a vast geographical area, the Middle East, Northern Africa, and Central Asia (MENA/CA) region is the largest in terms of sheer participant volume, featuring 14 teams chasing two spots.

Participating Nations:

  • Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Syria, Azerbaijan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, Iran

Lebanon enters the fray as the clear favorite, boasting a roster anchored by seasoned veterans and a prestigious TI-winning pedigree. However, the race for the second slot is wide open. Keep a close eye on Team Uzbekistan; the tactical brilliance of AkbarSoNNeikO” Butaev could be the X-factor that propels them past the competition.

Southeast Asia and Oceania: The Rising Powerhouse

Often cited as the most formidable region outside of Europe, the SEA and Oceania qualifiers are a hotbed for professional circuit regulars. The region’s strength is bolstered by the presence of elite talent, including world-class players like the two-time TI champion representing Team Australia.

Key Candidates:

  • New Zealand
  • Australia
  • Philippines
  • The biggest surprise in Western Europe is the absence of several renowned names across multiple rosters. No Topson, JerAx, or MATUMBAMAN announcement for the Finnish lineup, and no Ari for Great Britain’s roster either.

Fortunately, Ceb is listed as part of Team France, Davai Lama is also present on Belgium’s roster, and despite Ari’s absence, TeaGuvnor decided to step in and help Team Great Britain.

    Closing Thoughts

The Esports Nations Cup brings to esports the same excitement of seeing countries compete at the highest level that we usually associate with the FIFA World Cup, while also helping set the tone for the remainder of the year leading up to the tournament on November 2.

The organizers of the qualifiers have not disclosed the format that invited nations will use to compete for qualification, but considering that some regions feature an odd number of teams, a round-robin format seems more likely.

By that point, we will already know the champions of both the Esports World Cup and The International 2026, while also adjusting to a new season as most esports prepare for a short break in December.
