Berlin’s Nightlife Evolution: Inside the Launch of FOUND at the Historic Schultheiss Brewery
Berlin’s legendary clubbing landscape has gained a massive new player. Located in the heart of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, a sprawling industrial site has been reborn as FOUND, a versatile music venue and cultural hub. This ambitious project breathes new life into the former Schultheiss brewery, a location steeped in local nightlife lore.
A Legacy Reimagined
The site is perhaps best remembered by veteran ravers as the home of the iconic KitKatClub, which held court there from 2001 to 2004. Since then, the sprawling complex-known as Malzfabrik-has served various roles, but it has now been reclaimed as a premier destination for electronic music. Under the guidance of events expert Mika Schröter, who assumed management of the site earlier this year, the venue is being positioned as a “space for constant transformation.”
Schröter emphasizes that the appeal of the location lies in its architectural and cultural depth. “The site is a tapestry of industrial heritage,” he noted in a recent interview. “By launching FOUND, we aren’t just opening a club; we are writing the next chapter for a space that has already hosted decades of Berlin’s most vibrant subcultures.”
The Grand Opening: A Watergate Revival
The venue officially threw open its doors on June 27, hosting a high-energy, marathon open-air event curated by the team behind the city’s beloved, now-closed Watergate. The debut proved that the spirit of Berlin’s club scene remains resilient, drawing a massive crowd to the 8,500-capacity grounds.
The inaugural celebration featured a high-octane lineup that spanned two distinct stages: Shelter and Hall. Attendees were treated to sets from heavy hitters including Interplanetary Criminal, DJ Heartstring, THC, and DJ Spit, setting a high bar for the venue’s future programming.
