# Leeds’ TESTBED Venue Set for Massive September Relaunch Following Major Expansion
The industrial landscape of Leeds is set for a significant shift this September as the Butterley Street venue, TESTBED, prepares to unveil a comprehensive transformation. Since its inception in 2021, the warehouse space has served as a cornerstone for the city’s creative events, but the upcoming relaunch marks a transition into a much larger, more technologically advanced powerhouse.
## Scaling Up: A New Era for Leeds Nightlife
The most striking change to the venue is its physical footprint. By more than doubling its operational area-growing from a 10,000 sq ft footprint to an expansive 23,000 sq ft-the venue is positioning itself to accommodate larger crowds, with a new total capacity of 2,500.
This ambitious project is the result of a strategic partnership between TESTBED founders Laura Wellington and James Abbott-Donnelly and the industry heavyweights at AMAAD. The collaboration brings together the expertise behind high-profile projects such as London’s Junction 2 Festival, the LWE events brand, and the Ironworks venue, ensuring that the relaunch meets the highest standards of modern event production.

## Cutting-Edge Audio and Visual Integration
Beyond the structural expansion, the venue has undergone a complete technical overhaul designed to heighten sensory immersion. The centerpiece of the audio upgrade is the installation of a custom L-Acoustics L2 sound system. This addition is particularly notable, as it establishes TESTBED as the exclusive venue in Leeds to host this specific high-fidelity audio technology, which is currently setting the benchmark for clarity and power in global touring and festival circuits.
The visual experience has received equal attention. The venue has integrated a sophisticated Chauvet lighting rig, featuring high-intensity strobes, alongside dynamic LED ceiling arrays and a massive video wall. These elements are designed to work in tandem, creating a cohesive, high-energy atmosphere that responds to the nuances of live performances.
## Redefining the Crowd Experience
The interior layout has been reimagined to prioritize audience engagement. The main room now boasts a bespoke stage configuration engineered to facilitate a 360-degree perspective, allowing for a more intimate connection between performers and the crowd.
Furthermore, the addition of a 5,000 sq ft mezzanine level provides a new vantage point for attendees, effectively adding depth to the venue’s architecture. Looking ahead, the management team has also confirmed that development is already underway for a secondary room, signaling that this September relaunch is merely the first phase of a long-term vision for the site.
