The Future of Trance: Armin van Buuren Unveils the 2027 ASOT Anthem
In a monumental moment for the electronic dance music community, trance pioneer Armin van Buuren has pulled back the curtain on the official anthem for A State of Trance (ASOT) 2027. The reveal occurred during a staggering 13-hour live broadcast marking the 1300th episode of the iconic radio show, beamed directly to a global audience from the heart of Amsterdam.
A Milestone Celebration in Amsterdam
This announcement serves as a centerpiece for a landmark year, as ASOT commemorates a quarter-century of influence within the global electronic music scene. While the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) is traditionally a hotbed for surprise pop-up performances and the discovery of mysterious, unreleased IDs, van Buuren utilized the platform to provide a definitive preview of the sound that will anchor the brand’s identity throughout 2027.
The track’s debut was not entirely out of the blue; the Dutch maestro had been building anticipation for the record during his recent tour dates. Fans caught early glimpses of the production during his high-octane set in New York City, as well as a high-energy back-to-back performance with Benwal at the legendary Gashouder venue just one night prior to the official reveal.
The Evolution of the ASOT Sound
The sonic direction of ASOT anthems has undergone a significant transformation over the last half-decade, mirroring the broader shifts in dance music production. As the genre continues to blend elements of techno, progressive, and classic trance, the annual anthems have become a barometer for where the scene is heading. To understand the trajectory of these tracks, it is helpful to look at the recent history of the brand’s flagship releases:
- 2026: ‘Always You‘ (ASOT 2026 Elevation Anthem) – A collaborative effort featuring Armin van Buuren, Richard Durand, and Dicosis.
- 2025: ‘Is It Beautiful?‘ (ASOT 2025 Transformation Anthem) – A standout production by Armin van Buuren and Ben Hemsley.
With the 2027 anthem currently circulating as an ID, the trance community is already dissecting its structure, noting a return to the driving, melodic intensity that defined the early 2010s, albeit with modern, crisp production techniques that cater to today’s massive festival sound systems. As ASOT continues to evolve, this new anthem stands as a testament to van Buuren’s ability to remain at the forefront of the industry after 25 years.
