Onimusha: Way of the Sword Confirms September 25th Launch Date
The gaming calendar for late September is notoriously crowded, leading many industry observers to speculate that certain developers might shift their launch windows to avoid the congestion. However, Capcom has officially put those rumors to rest regarding Onimusha: Way of the Sword. While earlier reports suggested a possible shift to an earlier September 4th release, the publisher has doubled down on the original September 25th street date.
A Fresh Threat: Introducing Dohatsu-ten
To keep the momentum building, director Nihei Satoru recently unveiled fresh gameplay footage highlighting a formidable new Genma adversary: Dohatsu-ten. Departing from the series’ tradition of pulling heavily from Japanese mythology and folklore, Dohatsu-ten appears to be an entirely original antagonist designed specifically for this title. Despite his lack of historical roots, he is a lethal combatant, pushing the protagonist Musashi to his absolute limits with high-level swordsmanship.
Dohatsu-ten’s combat style is multifaceted and aggressive. He excels at closing the gap with rapid strikes and creating space through well-timed kicks. Players will need to master defensive maneuvers, as he is highly proficient at dodging incoming strikes and executing punishing counters. The challenge escalates significantly in his second phase, where he imbues his blade with elemental energy, allowing him to unleash devastating projectiles and deal increased chip damage.
Platform Availability and Premium Offerings
Capcom has confirmed that Onimusha: Way of the Sword will arrive on a wide array of platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and the Nintendo Switch 2. For those eager to get a head start, a complimentary demo is currently available for download across these storefronts.
Beyond the standard release, Capcom has detailed several premium tiers for the game. Fans who opt for the Deluxe or Premium Editions will gain access to a suite of exclusive content, including unique character skins for Musashi, the Oni Lady, and Izumo no Okuni. Furthermore, these editions include a collection of cosmetic charms and weapon skins, allowing players to customize the aesthetic of Musashi’s blade as they carve their way through the Genma forces.
