Dota 2 Update: Dark Carnival Refinements and Ranked Queue Adjustments
The recent launch of the Dark Carnival event brought a wave of excitement to the Dota 2 community, though it wasn’t without its share of technical hiccups. Valve has been quick to respond, rolling out a series of patches to smooth out the experience. Beyond event-specific repairs, this update also introduces quality-of-life improvements to general gameplay and the Ranked Role Queue system.
Streamlining the Dark Carnival Experience
The event’s economy has seen a significant adjustment to make progression feel more rewarding. Players can now utilize “Scrap Tickets” to acquire specific Hero Tickets. By trading in 6 Scrap, you can hand-pick the Hero Ticket you desire.
Earning these materials is straightforward: standard matches grant 2 Scrap, while Turbo games provide 1. Crucially, this reward system is performance-agnostic-you earn Scrap regardless of the match outcome, ensuring that even a tough loss contributes to your long-term event goals.
Expanded Access to Seeing Stones
For those who prefer a more relaxed environment, Valve has expanded the acquisition methods for Seeing Stones. You are no longer restricted to competitive multiplayer; these items can now be earned by participating in Co-op Bot Matches set to Hard or Unfair difficulty.
These stones are vital for uncovering fortunes, which in turn progress your journey through the Oracle’s Story. Furthermore, players aiming for completionist status can work toward collecting all 11 Tarot Arcanas, which are unlocked through consistent fortune draws.
UI Enhancements: Candyworks and Hero Tracking
Managing your inventory and event progress is now more intuitive thanks to two key interface updates:
- Candyworks Ownership Indicators: The shop now clearly flags items you already possess. This is a massive help for players looking to optimize their collection or decide whether to trade in duplicates.
- Improved Hero Filtering: The Dark Carnival hero selection screen now features a helpful tooltip. This display tracks your ticket requirements for upcoming rewards, allowing you to visualize your progress at a glance without needing to navigate away from the selection menu.
Technical Resolutions and Bug Squashing
The latest patch addresses several lingering issues that hindered the event experience:
- Resolved a bug where the Ticket Trader remained inaccessible for certain users.
- Fixed an issue where Ability Draft and Co-op Bot matches failed to distribute Tickets correctly.
- Corrected a logic error where Fortune Teller-granted Candy Shop Rerolls were incorrectly restricted by weekly caps.
- Fixed a frame-rate dependency issue affecting the “Pick the Lock” mini-game.
- Fixed incorrect chat wheel lines associated with Automaton Personas.
Ranked Role Queue: A More Flexible System
Valve has also implemented a welcome change to the Ranked Role Queue. Previously, players were often forced to select multiple high-demand roles to avoid consuming a Role Queue Game token. The new system is much more forgiving: you now only need to select a single high-demand role to preserve your token, granting players more agency over their preferred playstyle without the penalty.
