Expanding the Embark Universe: Arc Raiders and The Finals Head to Screen
The cinematic and television landscape is set to welcome two major gaming properties, as Embark Studios has officially greenlit film and series adaptations for its flagship titles, Arc Raiders and The Finals. This strategic move marks a significant expansion for the Nexon-owned developer, aiming to translate their digital worlds into narrative-driven visual media.
A Strategic Partnership with Chernin Entertainment
Following a competitive bidding process that saw interest from numerous high-profile production houses, Chernin Entertainment-the film and television arm of The North Road Company-has secured the rights to lead production. As the primary production partner, Chernin will oversee the development of both the television series and feature film projects derived from these gaming universes.
Patrick Söderlund, the founder and CEO of Embark Studios and executive chairman at Nexon, views this collaboration as a pivotal milestone. According to Söderlund, the goal is to evolve these titles into “deeply integrated transmedia experiences,” ensuring that the lore and excitement of the games resonate just as strongly on screen as they do on consoles and PCs.
Echoing this sentiment, David Ready, President of Film at Chernin Entertainment, highlighted the inherent potential of the properties. He noted that both games represent “ambitious global IP,” possessing the necessary narrative depth and world-building to anchor major, long-term film and television franchises.
Proven Success in the Gaming Market
The decision to adapt these titles is backed by impressive performance metrics. Arc Raiders, which debuted in October 2025, has already achieved significant commercial success, moving over 16 million units. Its critical reception has been equally stellar, securing the “Best Multiplayer Game” title at the 2025 Game Awards and earning the same accolade at the 2026 BAFTA Games Awards. Meanwhile, the high-octane, free-to-play shooter The Finals has cultivated a massive community, boasting a player base exceeding 30 million users within its first three years of operation.
This transition into Hollywood is a natural progression for Chernin Entertainment, a studio with a proven track record in genre-bending storytelling, including their work on the Backrooms film adaptation. By leveraging their expertise in building immersive cinematic worlds, Chernin is well-positioned to capture the high-stakes energy that defines Embark’s portfolio.
