Wildcard’s PGL Singapore Major Aspirations Face Setback After Portugal Exit
The North American squad Wildcard has seen its path to the PGL Singapore Major narrow significantly following a disappointing fifth-sixth place finish at the FOX Legacy Season 1 event in Portugal. This performance has caused a sharp decline in their qualification probability, which has plummeted from a hopeful 39% down to just 24%.
With the PGL Singapore Major serving as a cornerstone of the current Counter-Strike tournament circuit, every point is now critical. For teams hovering on the qualification bubble, the margin for error has effectively vanished. While Wildcard still has two LAN appearances remaining on their calendar, they no longer have the luxury of a safety net; they must secure high placements to remain in contention for a spot at one of the most prestigious events in the professional scene.
A Costly Playoff Collapse
The tournament trajectory for Wildcard took a turn for the worse during the opening round of the playoffs. Entering as favorites against Nice Try-a team currently sitting at 115th in the Valve Regional Standings (VRS)-Wildcard suffered a surprising upset. This loss immediately relegated them to the lower bracket, forcing a grueling path through the elimination side of the bracket.
While they managed to stabilize briefly by overcoming EAC, their momentum was short-lived. A decisive 2-0 defeat at the hands of INFINITE ultimately sealed their exit from the competition. Finishing with a 1-2 series record, the team now faces a difficult climb in the rankings. Data analysts at Mischief have highlighted that this specific result has drastically altered the mathematical landscape for the team’s qualification hopes, leaving them in a precarious position as the season progresses.
