## Expanding the ID.Cross Lineup: Volkswagen Introduces the Accessible 37 kWh Variant
Since its initial unveiling this past July, the ID.Cross has primarily been marketed through its premium 52 kWh battery configuration. Volkswagen is now broadening the appeal of its electric crossover by officially rolling out the highly anticipated entry-level model featuring a 37 kWh battery pack, fulfilling the promise of a more budget-friendly entry point into their EV ecosystem.
### Performance Tiers and Battery Options
The ID.Cross range now offers distinct powertrain choices tailored to different driving needs. While the 52 kWh model remains the performance-oriented choice, boasting a robust 211 hp front-mounted motor, the new 37 kWh iteration focuses on efficiency and urban agility. Buyers opting for the smaller battery can select between two power outputs: 116 hp or 135 hp.
### Efficiency and Charging Capabilities
The 37 kWh variant paired with the 116 hp motor is designed for the practical commuter, offering a WLTP-rated range of 324 km. This makes it a compelling option for city dwellers and suburban drivers alike. Furthermore, Volkswagen has prioritized convenience; the vehicle supports rapid charging, capable of replenishing the battery from 10% to 80% in just 23 minutes.
Despite its focus on affordability, the vehicle does not compromise on highway capability. It maintains a top speed of 160 km/h, ensuring that it remains a versatile companion for occasional long-distance travel or motorway commuting. As the European EV market continues to grow-with electric vehicle sales seeing a steady upward trajectory in recent quarters-this sub-€28,000 price point positions the ID.Cross as a formidable competitor against other compact electric crossovers currently vying for market share.
