Selfies might be about to get a serious upgrade. Camera company Insta360has unveiled a new smartphone accessory designed to dramatically improve selfie quality by letting users shoot with their phone’s rear camera instead of the front one.

Called the Snap Selfie Screen, the compact device attaches magnetically to the back of a smartphone and mirrors the phone’s display on a small external screen, allowing users to see themselves while shooting with the phone’s main camera system.

The idea is simple but powerful: rear cameras on most smartphones are significantly better than front-facing cameras. By providing a live preview on a secondary screen, the accessory allows users to frame photos and videos properly without flipping their phones around.

The Snap features a 3.5-inch touchscreen display that connects to the phone via USB-C and mirrors the device’s interface in real time. Users can control camera functions such as zoom, switching lenses, and taking photos directly from the screen.

Insta360 is releasing two versions of the gadget: a standard model priced at $79.99 and a premium version priced at $89.99 that includes an integrated adjustable ring light for better lighting in darker environments.

The accessory is designed with content creators and vloggers in mind, offering a portable way to capture higher-quality footage using the phone’s best camera lenses. Because the device draws power directly from the phone, users don’t need to charge a separate battery, although it can reduce battery life during extended recording sessions.

While the Snap is optimized for iPhones using MagSafe-style magnetic mounting, Android users can still use the device by attaching a magnetic ring or compatible case to their phones.

With the rise of social media content creation, devices like the Snap highlight how smartphone accessories are evolving to help creators capture higher-quality video and photos without needing professional camera gear.
