The debut edition of Circoloco Mumbai, scheduled for April 19, was cancelled just hours before it was set to begin. The organisers called it off following last-minute regulatory issues.

The event was meant to mark Circoloco’s first show in India. However, organisers cancelled it roughly 12 hours before gates were due to open. Attendees received cancellation messages around 2 AM on the day of the event. Preparations were already underway in Mumbai. The organisers, Sounds Simplify, had shared videos showing the setup in progress.

In an official statement, organisers said they could not secure the required permissions. This was despite months of planning, a complete production setup, and all artists already in Mumbai. They referred to “updated regulatory protocols” for large-scale outdoor events. However, they did not link the decision to any specific incident.

The organisers confirmed they would initiate refunds for all ticket holders. They also stated that they respect government guidelines and decisions.

What makes the cancellation more striking is that the event was already fully set up. Visuals shared by the team showed staging, lighting, and infrastructure already in place. The Circoloco team and all artists had also arrived in Mumbai ahead of the show.

Many attendees had travelled from across India as well as internationally – including from the UK, Sri Lanka, and Dubai, to attend the event. Several took to social media to share their disappointment following the cancellation.

The Mumbai edition featured a high-profile lineup, including: Marco Carola, Michael Bibi, Chris Stussy, Mau P and Jamback. All of these artists were set to make their India debut as part of the event.

Following the cancellation, Michael Bibi shared a message expressing disappointment.

Meanwhile, Mau P posted a video from his hotel room, giving a glimpse of the situation after the announcement. Beyond the event itself, the show was seen as a step forward for India’s electronic music ecosystem.

This event was more than just a show. It was set to bring Circoloco, one of Ibiza’s most influential underground brands, to India for the first time.

Hosting a global brand like Circoloco carries significance beyond a single night. It signals growing demand, infrastructure, and audience readiness for large-scale underground events in the country. At the same time, the cancellation highlights ongoing challenges. Organisers still face uncertainty around permissions and evolving regulatory frameworks.

For now, Circoloco’s India debut remains postponed. Organisers expressed hope that the event can be brought back in the future under the right conditions.
