Upcoming Redmi Note 17 and Poco M8 Plus Surface in BIS Certification

The mobile landscape is buzzing as Redmi prepares to debut its highly anticipated Redmi Note 17 series in China later this month. While domestic fans are counting down the days, international consumers should temper their expectations; historically, global variants of these devices often arrive months later and frequently feature significant hardware deviations from their Chinese counterparts.

New BIS Filings Hint at Rebranded Global Releases

Recent regulatory activity in India provides a glimpse into what might be coming to global markets. The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has officially certified two new handsets: the Redmi device (model number 2607DRA18I) and a corresponding Poco model (model number 2607DPC18I). Industry analysts suggest these are likely twin devices, a common strategy for Xiaomi’s sub-brands to maximize market penetration under different branding umbrellas.

Strategic Naming and Market Positioning

Speculation is mounting that the Redmi-branded unit will serve as the global iteration of the Note 17. Meanwhile, the Poco variant is widely expected to launch as the Poco M8 Plus, acting as the direct successor to the Poco M7 Plus, which debuted in August 2024. Interestingly, Redmi has opted to bypass the “16” series entirely, mirroring Xiaomi’s own branding trajectory by jumping straight from the Redmi Note 15 to the Note 17.
