Hellsplit: Labyrinth Announced: A New Roguelike Chapter for the Dark Fantasy Franchise
Deep Type Games has officially unveiled Hellsplit: Labyrinth, a fresh entry in their gritty dark fantasy action RPG series. Serving as a spiritual successor to the cult-hit Hellsplit Arena, this new title has surfaced on the Meta Horizon store with a projected launch window of Spring 2027.
Core Gameplay and Roguelike Mechanics
While early store listings for Hellsplit: Labyrinth lean heavily on the foundational DNA of its predecessor, the developers have clarified the core gameplay loop. Unlike the arena-focused combat of the original, Labyrinth shifts toward a roguelike structure. Players are tasked with navigating treacherous, procedurally generated environments to recover seven shards of a mystical crystal.
The experience is bolstered by several key features designed to add depth and replayability:
- Diverse Environments: The game features eight distinct biomes, all maintaining the signature grim, dark fantasy aesthetic established by Hellsplit Arena.
- Meaningful Progression: A robust character development system allows players to grow their capabilities as they delve deeper into the labyrinth.
- Narrative Agency: The game promises a full-length story campaign where player decisions directly influence the outcome, leading to multiple possible endings.
Movement and Accessibility
The current store description emphasizes a “room-scale” VR experience, requiring a physical play area of at least 1.5 x 1.5 meters. However, veterans of the franchise will likely recognize this as a carry-over from the Hellsplit Arena documentation. Given that Arena successfully implemented artificial stick-based locomotion alongside physical movement, it is highly probable that Labyrinth will offer similar flexibility to accommodate various player preferences and physical limitations.
Platform Availability and Development Context
As of now, Hellsplit: Labyrinth is exclusively listed for the Meta Quest platform. There has been no official word regarding potential ports to SteamVR or PlayStation VR2. This exclusivity follows a pattern of staggered releases for the studio; for context, Hellsplit Arena took over five years to transition from its 2019 SteamVR debut to its March 2025 Meta Quest release.
The status of the PlayStation VR2 version of Arena remains murky. Although a port was previously announced, it has faced significant delays, with community moderators suggesting a timeline pushed into late 2025 or 2026. Recent developer communications have been sparse, focusing on updates for two unspecified platforms, notably omitting any mention of Sony’s hardware.
Studio Track Record
The development landscape for Deep Type Games has been somewhat volatile recently. The studio abruptly canceled their zombie-themed shooter, Cute & Dead, removing the store page entirely on its scheduled July 1, 2025, release date. This sudden delisting has left fans looking for more transparency regarding the studio’s current project pipeline.
Despite these uncertainties, fans of the series can currently wishlist Hellsplit: Labyrinth on the Meta Quest store to stay updated on its development progress as it heads toward its 2027 release.
