A Fresh Cultural Hub: Radial to Revitalize Tottenham’s Nightlife Scene
Tottenham’s vibrant creative landscape is set to welcome a brand-new addition this September. Taking over the site previously home to the iconic Five Miles and the short-lived but influential listening bar MOKO, a new intimate venue is preparing to breathe fresh life into the Markfield Road area.
Introducing Radial: A New Chapter for North London
Dubbed radial, this 250-capacity establishment is scheduled to host its grand opening on September 5. The project has been made possible through a strategic grant from the Arts Council England’s Supporting Grassroots Music (SGM) fund, a vital lifeline for independent venues in an era where small-scale clubs face significant economic pressure. Recent industry reports suggest that the UK has lost over 30% of its grassroots music venues in the last decade, making the arrival of a new, purpose-built space a significant win for the local arts economy.
Community-Driven Vision and Design
The venue is the brainchild of Ten87 Studios, a collective already deeply embedded in the capital’s music infrastructure through their network of 50 recording studios. By pivoting into event management, Ten87 aims to bridge the gap between music production and live performance.
The aesthetic direction of the space, spearheaded by the creative team at SODA, draws heavy inspiration from Olafur Eliasson’s legendary 2003 installation, ‘The Weather Project’. Much like the Tate Modern’s famous sun-drenched exhibit, radial utilizes warm, atmospheric lighting to create an immersive environment that feels distinct from the typical dark, industrial aesthetic of traditional London clubs.
Beyond the Dancefloor: A Multi-Purpose Cultural Space
While radial will certainly cater to late-night clubbers, its mission extends far beyond the dancefloor. The programming is centered on the concept of “active listening,” ensuring that high-fidelity sound remains the priority regardless of the event type. The venue’s calendar will be diverse, featuring:
- Curated club nights focusing on underground talent.
- Sound-based wellness sessions and meditative experiences.
- Educational workshops and industry-focused panel discussions.
- Experimental, artist-led performances that push the boundaries of traditional live music.
