Electronic music duo Maribou State has officially confirmed they are stepping away from the spotlight. The pair will conclude their current chapter with a final headline performance at London’s LIDO Festival, scheduled for this coming Bank Holiday Monday, August 31.

This announcement arrives shortly after the August 21 release of the deluxe version of their latest Ninja Tune album, ‘Hallucinating Love’. This expanded release offers fans a deeper look into the duo’s studio methodology, featuring a collection of raw demo tracks alongside a diverse array of remixes that reimagine the album’s core soundscapes.
In the music industry, such deluxe editions often serve as a “closing statement” for an era, allowing artists to share the discarded sketches and experimental iterations that didn’t make the final cut of the original LP.
Navigating Personal Hurdles and Creative Stagnation
The journey to completing ‘Hallucinating Love’ was far from straightforward. Liam Ivory and Chris Davids faced significant obstacles, ranging from persistent writer’s block to serious personal health challenges.
Reflecting on the toll of their previous touring cycle, Liam Ivory shared his experience with Mixmag: “The transition from the intensity of the 2019 tour directly into the isolation of lockdown was jarring. We were physically and mentally depleted, and the sudden stillness meant we couldn’t outrun the burnout anymore. For me, it manifested as severe health anxiety and a profound sense of aimlessness.”
Ivory noted that his creative partner, Chris, was navigating a parallel struggle during this period. Much like an athlete recovering from a long-term injury, the duo found that the pressure to produce art while managing mental health required a period of forced reflection. This hiatus serves as a necessary reset, mirroring a growing trend among touring artists who are increasingly prioritizing long-term well-being over the relentless cycle of album-tour-repeat.
