Debunking the Galaxy S27 Ultra Telephoto Camera Rumors
Recent speculation regarding the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra suggested a significant overhaul of its optical zoom capabilities. Specifically, reports hinted that Samsung might swap out the existing long-range telephoto lens for a new configuration featuring a 4x zoom paired with a larger 1/1.9” sensor. However, industry insider Ice Universe has stepped in to clarify the situation, labeling these claims as “100% false.”
Consistency in Optical Zoom
According to the latest insights, Samsung intends to maintain the status quo for its flagship’s zoom hardware. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is expected to retain the proven 5x 1/2.52” telephoto module found in the S26 Ultra. While the prospect of a larger sensor is always enticing for mobile photography enthusiasts, it appears the current hardware remains the preferred choice for Samsung’s engineering team.
While the 5x lens is staying put, the future of the secondary 3x 10MP telephoto lens remains uncertain. Previous reports indicated that Samsung might remove the 3x 10MP tele module entirely. Given the massive 200MP resolution of the primary sensor, which can effectively handle mid-range zoom tasks through high-quality cropping, the loss of a dedicated 3x lens is unlikely to impact the user experience significantly.

This structural change is largely driven by the need for better clearance for magnetic accessories.
