Celebrating a Quarter-Century of Gorillaz: Iconic Albums Return to Physical Form
To commemorate 25 years of the virtual band’s genre-defying legacy, Gorillaz is treating fans to a special reissue campaign. This December 4th, the group’s foundational trilogy-their 2001 self-titled debut, the critically acclaimed 2005 masterpiece *Demon Days*, and the 2010 environmental concept album *Plastic Beach*-will be available in fresh, collectible formats.
Collectors can look forward to vibrant gradient-colored vinyl pressings and unique picture cassettes. Beyond the music, the band is launching an extensive merchandise line to mark the anniversary. The collection includes everything from functional items like slipmats and tote bags to lifestyle accessories such as bandanas, pin badges, magnets, and a 500-piece jigsaw puzzle, alongside a camo-themed apparel set.
A Year of Creative Expansion and Live Spectacles
The band’s anniversary celebrations follow a highly productive year. In March, Gorillaz dropped their ninth studio album, titled ‘The Mountain’, released through their independent KONG imprint. To build anticipation for the record, the group unveiled a beautifully crafted, hand-drawn animated short film, *The Mountain, The Moon Cave and The Sad God*, which provided a visual narrative for the album’s themes.
The momentum continued into the summer with a massive, one-off headline performance at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The concert was a star-studded affair, featuring a diverse roster of collaborators including Little Simz, De La Soul, Shaun Ryder, Yasiin Bey, Black Thought, Anoushka Shankar, Johnny Marr, Omar Souleyman, Moonchild Sanelly, and Popcaan. Given the scale and cultural significance of the event, a documentary capturing the behind-the-scenes magic of the show is currently in the works.
The band’s influence remains as potent as ever; shortly after their stadium triumph, they made a surprise appearance alongside Bad Bunny to perform their collaborative track, ‘Tormenta’, further cementing their status as global musical chameleons. With physical media sales continuing to see a resurgence-recent industry data indicates that vinyl records have now outsold CDs for several consecutive years-this reissue series arrives at the perfect moment for both long-time fans and new listeners to own a piece of alternative music history.
