Originally titled κότα in its native Greek, the film has been making waves on the international festival circuit since its debut at TIFF 2025. Following a successful run in various global markets throughout 2026, the film is finally ready to capture the attention of American viewers.
The Production Behind the Feathers

The production process was as unconventional as the plot itself. Filmed entirely on location in Greece, the filmmakers opted for a practical approach to casting the lead. Rather than relying on CGI, the production utilized eight distinct Hungarian chickens-Eszti, Szandi, Feri, Enci, Eti, Eniko, Nora, and Anett-to portray the protagonist. This method mirrors the trend of using multiple animal actors to ensure safety and performance variety, a technique often seen in high-budget animal features to maintain animal welfare standards.
