Creamfields Unveils Ambitious “Runway 2.0” Stage for 30th Anniversary
As Creamfields prepares to celebrate three decades of electronic music dominance, the festival organizers have revealed a massive production upgrade for their 2027 return to Daresbury, Cheshire. The centerpiece of this milestone celebration is the introduction of “Runway 2.0,” an architectural marvel that synthesizes two of the most iconic stage designs in the festival’s history into a single, groundbreaking structure.
The Evolution of Immersive Design
The concept behind Runway 2.0 is a direct response to the festival’s ongoing commitment to pushing the boundaries of live production. By merging the structural DNA of the original “Runway” stage-which debuted in 2022 to widespread acclaim for its high-octane, immersive layout-with the futuristic “HALO” arena introduced in 2025, the team is creating a hybrid experience. While the HALO stage was celebrated for its 45-metre circular design that enveloped attendees in a 360-degree sensory cocoon of light and sound, Runway 2.0 aims to take that intimacy and scale it up significantly.
This fusion represents a shift away from the traditional “LED wall and truss” setup that has dominated festival stages for years. Instead, it prioritizes a cohesive, wrap-around environment that places the audience at the heart of the performance rather than merely in front of it.
Engineering a Festival Giant
The creative vision for this project is being spearheaded by Lucid Creates. This London-based design studio has been instrumental in Creamfields’ aesthetic evolution since 2022, consistently challenging the industry standard for outdoor stage architecture. Their expertise in blending structural engineering with digital artistry has made them the primary architects for the festival’s most ambitious builds.
The sheer scale of Runway 2.0 is set to be a record-breaker for the event. Spanning a footprint of 60 metres by 40 metres, the arena is engineered to accommodate a massive crowd of 20,000 people simultaneously. To put this in perspective, the capacity of this single stage rivals the total attendance of many mid-sized boutique festivals, highlighting the sheer magnitude of the production investment Creamfields is making for its 30th-anniversary edition.
With the festival industry increasingly focusing on “experience-first” design, Runway 2.0 serves as a prime example of how major events are moving toward permanent, bespoke structures that offer a more tactile and visually arresting experience than standard touring rigs.
