A Cosmic Reunion: The New Sci-Fi Comedy ‘Allen’
Netflix has officially pulled back the curtain on the trailer for Allen, a fresh Australian sci-fi comedy directed by the creative duo Daley Pearson and Jeffrey Walker. Produced by the Brisbane-based powerhouse Ludo Studio, the film captures a unique blend of extraterrestrial absurdity and grounded human emotion.
Two Decades of Unfinished Business
The narrative centers on Petey, a man who has remained emotionally tethered to a childhood memory for twenty years. His life was forever altered when his best friend-a visitor from another world named Allen-abruptly disappeared without a trace. While the premise echoes the comedic beats of the 2011 cult classic Paul, Allen carves out its own identity through a distinctively dry, Antipodean sense of humor.
In the film, Allen makes a surprise return to Earth, but his motives are far from simple. Rather than a standard “buddy comedy” reunion, the story introduces a high-stakes twist: Allen is back with a clandestine objective that carries global implications. This sudden reappearance forces a stagnant Petey to finally confront his past and step into a role of responsibility to help safeguard the planet.
Meet the Cast
The film features a talented ensemble cast bringing this quirky story to life, including:
- T.J. Power as the reluctant protagonist, Petey
- Charlotte Nicdao
- Josh Helman
- Emily Barclay
- Benedict Hardie
With the global sci-fi comedy market continuing to grow-recent industry reports suggest a steady 5% annual increase in demand for genre-bending streaming content-Allen arrives at a perfect time. By balancing the nostalgic “alien-next-door” trope with a modern, character-driven narrative, Pearson and Walker are poised to deliver a film that is as heartfelt as it is hilarious.
