A frightening moment unfolded during Coachella’s opening weekend when a lighting fixture reportedly fell into the crowd during John Summit’s surprise set at the Do LaB stage, injuring at least one attendee and forcing the area to temporarily shut down.

The incident occurred Friday evening shortly after 8 p.m. at the Do LaB stage — a fan-favorite part of the festival known for surprise electronic music performances and immersive stage design. Witnesses say a lighting element from the stage rigging suddenly dropped into the audience, striking a woman standing several rows into the crowd.

According to attendees who were nearby, the fixture hit the woman on the side of her head, causing a visible cut and bleeding. Fans in the crowd reportedly used their phone flashlights to signal for medical assistance while others helped escort the injured attendee out of the packed audience so she could receive treatment.

Security quickly responded, and the Do LaB stage was closed off with caution tape while festival staff and medical teams addressed the situation.

A Chaotic Opening Night at Coachella

The incident came amid already challenging conditions during Coachella’s opening day, as strong desert winds swept across the Empire Polo Club throughout Friday evening. Gusts reportedly reached 35–40 mph, creating safety concerns across the festival grounds.

The weather forced several production changes and cancellations across the event. One of the most notable disruptions occurred when Anyma had to cancel his highly anticipated Aeden audiovisual show shortly before it was scheduled to begin due to unsafe wind conditions.

Earlier in the day, campers across the festival grounds also reported tents and canopies being blown over as dust and wind moved through the area.
