The Multidisciplinary Vision of LAMIA: Crafting Sound and Cinema
Operating at the intersection of electronic music production, academic research, and avant-garde filmmaking, LAMIA has carved out a unique niche in the contemporary underground scene. Dividing her time between the creative hubs of London and Berlin, she crafts immersive audiovisual landscapes that delve deep into the human condition-specifically focusing on the nuances of psychological fragmentation, the weight of isolation, and the fluidity of memory.
Her reputation as a formidable multidisciplinary artist is backed by significant industry recognition. With airplay on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Introducing, alongside critical acclaim from platforms like CLASH and DMY, LAMIA has proven her ability to resonate with both listeners and tastemakers. Her live performances, including a standout appearance at the iconic Berghain Kantine, further solidify her status as a rising force in electronic music. We sat down with her to unpack the creative philosophy behind her latest project, Requiem For A Dream, and to explore how she bridges the gap between sonic textures and visual narratives.
Unpacking Requiem For A Dream
It is a pleasure to have you with us, LAMIA. Let’s dive straight into your latest work, Requiem For A Dream. Could you walk us through the genesis of this project and the inspiration driving both the composition and the visual storytelling?
Thank you for the warm welcome; it’s great to be here.
The Requiem For A Dream project serves as a dual-medium exploration of the modern condition. At its core, the work investigates the friction between our internal aspirations for self-actualization and the harsh realities of urban existence. Much like a digital-age odyssey, the project mirrors the way we construct identities in high-pressure environments, where the pursuit of a “dream” often clashes with the reality of systemic loneliness. By pairing the track with a specific visual narrative, I wanted to capture that sense of psychological dissonance-the feeling of being caught between who we want to be and the fragmented reality we inhabit daily.
