Reviving Legacy Assets: The Return of Atia Original Crystals
Sky Mavis is set to breathe new life into a foundational element of the Axie Infinity ecosystem. The developer has confirmed plans to reactivate the redemption process for Atia Original Crystals (AOC), a move that will enable long-term holders to finally mint rare Origin Axies.
A Historical Perspective on AOC
The origins of these tokens date back to the project’s infancy in 2018. During the initial presale phase, early adopters were incentivized to grow the community through a referral program. Those who successfully referred new buyers were rewarded with tokens-originally dubbed Axie Origin Coins-which functioned as a voucher system. Historically, collectors could trade in five of these tokens to secure a unique Origin Axie, a process that eventually went dormant, leaving a portion of the supply sitting idle in digital wallets.
Migration and Current Supply Dynamics
The utility of these assets was revitalized earlier this year. In January 2024, Sky Mavis facilitated the migration of 1,375 unredeemed tokens from the Ethereum mainnet to the Ronin network. Upon arrival, they were rebranded as Atia Original Crystals.
Given that the established exchange rate remains at five crystals per one Origin Axie, this migration effectively unlocked the potential for 275 additional Origin Axies to enter the ecosystem. This is a significant development for the game’s economy, as Origin Axies are often prized for their scarcity and historical significance within the blockchain gaming space.
What to Expect Next
Sky Mavis has officially signaled that the redemption portal will go live on App.Axie in the near future. This update serves as a bridge between the game’s earliest days and its current iteration on the Ronin sidechain.
For collectors, this isn’t just about adding a new unit to their inventory; it represents the closure of a long-standing chapter in the game’s history. By allowing these legacy assets to be utilized, the team is rewarding the patience of early supporters while simultaneously increasing the circulating supply of high-tier, collectible assets.
