A Fusion of Genres: Indira Paganotto and Harald Barrett’s Tomorrowland Debut
The Tomorrowland 2026 Mainstage witnessed a groundbreaking sonic experiment yesterday as techno powerhouse Indira Paganotto joined forces with metal virtuoso Harald Barrett. The collaboration served as a high-octane showcase of their newly minted track, a project that materialized in a whirlwind three-week production window leading up to the festival.
Defining the “Psy-Metal” Sound
During an exclusive interview on Tomorrowland’s One World Radio, Paganotto coined the term “psy-metal” to describe their collaborative output. The track masterfully bridges the gap between two seemingly disparate worlds: Paganotto’s signature, high-velocity psy-techno percussion and the raw, aggressive energy of Barrett’s guitar work.
Barrett, widely recognized for his role in the Swedish metalcore outfit Imminence, brought a unique tactile element to the performance. He utilized his distinctive signature technique-incorporating a violin bow against his electric guitar strings-to create haunting, atmospheric textures that cut through the heavy electronic basslines.
From Studio to Mainstage
The synergy between the two artists was remarkably organic, especially considering the logistical constraints. Despite the complexity of their sound, the duo only met in person this past Thursday. Their preparation was limited to a single rehearsal session held in their hotel room just hours before they stepped onto the world’s most iconic electronic music stage.
This rapid-fire creative process highlights a growing trend in the electronic music industry where cross-genre pollination is becoming the standard for innovation. Much like the recent surge in industrial-techno crossovers, this performance signals a shift toward more visceral, instrument-driven live sets.
Expanding the ARTCORE Legacy
This performance is just the latest milestone in a prolific year for the Spanish artist. Beyond her Mainstage appearance, the Hï Ibiza resident has been busy expanding her label, ARTCORE. She recently unveiled ‘DREAM’, a collaborative effort with Dutch-Moroccan vocalist El Karima, released through a partnership between her imprint and Tomorrowland Music.
Reflecting on her journey, Paganotto shared with DJ Mag that returning to host her own ARTCORE stage at Tomorrowland for the second consecutive year was a deeply emotional milestone. She noted the full-circle nature of her career, recalling her early days supporting Charlotte de Witte on that very same stage five years ago-a testament to her rapid ascent from a supporting act to a festival headliner.
