Seven Lions is taking his catalog into the concert hall this fall. The producer has announced Opus Harmonia, a one-night-only performance with the Seattle Symphony at Benaroya Hall on September 25. Joining Jeff for the show are Brieanna Grace, Dylan Matthew, Fiora, Haliene, and Jonathan Mendelsohn.
The project was built in partnership with Seattle Symphony’s Associate Director of Popular Programming Andrew Joslyn, an orchestrator and composer who arranged 17 of Seven Lions’ tracks for a 50-piece orchestra. The idea is to take a catalog built on cinematic synth work and sweeping melodic drops and translate it into a fully symphonic setting, something Seven Lions hasn’t attempted at this scale before.
It’s also a first for the orchestra. The Seattle Symphony has never collaborated with an electronic artist in this kind of format, making Opus Harmonia something of a test case for how far these orchestral crossovers can go beyond the now-familiar template of a DJ playing over pre-recorded string sections.
Special guest vocalists will join the orchestra throughout the night, giving longtime fans new interpretations of songs originally built around vocal chops, layered synths, and heavy low end. Reworking that material for strings,
