Sigurbjörnsdóttir brings a wealth of experience to the private sector. Her political career began with her election to the Icelandic parliament in 2016, followed by her historic appointment as the nation’s youngest Minister of Justice in 2019. Most recently, she served as the Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation from 2021 until late 2024.
Following a sabbatical at Columbia University, she stepped down from her parliamentary seat, signaling a transition that she believes highlights the versatility of public service expertise. “My time in government taught me that decision-makers are often operating in a vacuum when it comes to the real-world behavior of these systems,” Sigurbjörnsdóttir noted in a recent interview. “By moving into this space, I intend to help generate the evidence-based insights required to ensure these technologies are developed and deployed with accountability.”
