Fugitive Alert: Former Liverpool Nightlife Figure Escapes Open Prison
Authorities in Cheshire have launched an urgent search for Kyle Chase, a former Liverpool-based DJ and entrepreneur who previously operated the now-closed Spray Shop venue. Chase, who was midway through a significant custodial sentence, walked away from HMP Thorn Cross on the morning of August 14th.
Background on the Conviction
Chase’s incarceration stems from his involvement in a sophisticated criminal enterprise. In 2024, he entered a guilty plea regarding his role in a conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, including heroin, cocaine, cannabis, and ketamine. His illicit activities were facilitated through the use of EncroChat, an encrypted communication network frequently targeted by law enforcement in recent years to dismantle organized crime groups. Following his conviction, he was handed a sentence of 12 years and eight months.
Details of the Escape
According to reports from The Liverpool Echo, the 34-year-old was last observed departing the Category D open facility at approximately 9:00 AM. At the time of his disappearance, he was dressed in a grey cap, black shorts, and a black jacket, and was seen carrying a black backpack.
The escape highlights the ongoing challenges surrounding Category D prisons, which are designed to prepare inmates for reintegration into society through lower-security environments. Statistics from the Ministry of Justice have historically shown that while absconds from open prisons remain relatively rare, they trigger immediate and intensive multi-agency responses to ensure public safety.
Law Enforcement Response
Cheshire Police have issued a public appeal for assistance in locating the fugitive. A representative for the force emphasized the severity of the situation, noting that those who choose to abscond face significant legal repercussions. These consequences typically include a mandatory transfer back to a high-security closed prison and a lengthy disqualification from being considered for open conditions in the future.
“Our priority is the swift recapture of this individual,” the spokesperson stated. “We are collaborating closely with relevant agencies and encourage anyone who may have seen him or has information regarding his current location to come forward immediately.”
Chase had only recently established his presence in the local music scene, having launched the Spray Shop venue in 2023 before his legal troubles brought his business ventures to an abrupt end.
