PAX Unplugged Expands to Texas: Houston Set to Host New Tabletop Showcase in 2027
The landscape of tabletop gaming is set for a major shift as ReedPop and Penny Arcade officially reveal plans for the debut of PAX Unplugged Houston. Slated for June 2027, this expansion marks a significant milestone for the brand, bringing its dedicated analogue gaming experience to a new region.
A New Chapter for Tabletop Enthusiasts
Since the inception of the original PAX Unplugged in Pennsylvania back in 2017, the tabletop sector has seen explosive growth. According to recent market analysis, the global board game market is projected to reach over $30 billion by 2028, fueled by a resurgence in social, face-to-face gaming. Sean Gonzalez, the event manager for PAX, emphasized that this expansion is a direct response to the thriving interest within the community.
“The tabletop industry continues to grow, and tabletop gaming really flourishes among the PAX community,” Gonzalez noted. By focusing on a dedicated expo floor, the event will offer attendees a comprehensive experience featuring developer panels, competitive tournaments, and various community-led meetups.
Why Houston? Returning to Southern Roots
The decision to select Houston as the host city was a strategic move based on logistical infrastructure and strong feedback from industry partners. For many, this announcement serves as a homecoming. Following the indefinite cancellation of PAX South in 2021-which held its final gathering in San Antonio in early 2020-the organizers were eager to reconnect with the loyal fanbase in the Southern United States.
“We were always partial to returning to the South,” Gonzalez explained. “After comparing a few options, we were happy to find that not only was Houston the best place to launch a second Unplugged, but it was a chance to bring PAX back to the PAX South fans that missed us.”

The inaugural Houston event will be hosted at the George R. Brown Convention Center. By establishing a presence in such a major hub, organizers hope to replicate the success of the Philadelphia-based show while tailoring the experience to the unique culture of the Texas gaming scene.
